The taxi driver who transported self-confessed murderer to Mahdia after killing his ‘child mother’ SimoneMurder suspect, Clevon HamiltonHackett, surrendered to police at Mahdia on Friday evening.He was subsequently taken to the Criminal Investigations Department at Eve Leary where he is being grilled. He is expected to be charged as an accessory to murder shortly.Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Guyana Times that on the night of the fatal stabbing, the taxi took Clevon Hamilton to the University of Guyana access road where he collected the mother of one.Blanhum stated that based on the driver’s statement, an argument ensued between the suspect and the woman during which the man pulled out a knife from the haversack he was carrying and inflicted several wounds to the woman’s body.The driver, the crime chief related, was then ordered to drive to a dark corner where the suspect dragged the woman out the back seat of the car. He then spent some time in the dark and returned to the car.At this time, he ordered the taxi driver to take him to Mahdia. On their way to the mining community, the murder suspect disposed of the woman’s mobile phone. However, it was reported that the car was found abandoned in Mahdia. At the time of the discovery, the back seat of the vehicle had blood stains and maggots.According to reports the woman left home on April 16 at about 20:30h to uplift a package but never returned home.She was due to be maid-of-honour at her sister’s wedding on Sunday last and was to celebrate her son’s birthday on Monday. The woman’s body was discovered in a trench among vegetation by two school boys on their way to school.Hours after the discovery, the police arrested Hamilton in Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro/Siparuni). He was transported to CID headquarters where he was interrogated and during which he caved under pressure, admitting to committing the crime.He was on Friday arraigned for the murder of the former model and was remanded to prison until May 18.
