Photo: Hassan Mahmud Law enforcers concluded their operation, ‘Trepid Punch’, at an alleged militant den in Banonpara of Kushtia’s Bheramara upazila headquarters on Saturday night, nearly 22 hours after they cordoned it off, reports UNB.Additional deputy commissioner of Khulna range Habibur Rahman officially announced the conclusion of the operation at a press briefing around 10:00pm.The bomb disposal unit recovered an explosive device weighing around 10 kilograms, said Habibur adding they heard the sound of explosion four times during the drive.Meanwhile, police arrested house owner Masud’s wife Nasima Begum for interrogation, said officer-in-charge of Bheramara police station Nur Hossain Khandaker.Wishing anonymity, an official of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) said they had secrete information that a group of militants rented the house at Bheramara upazila and was preparing to carry out subversive acts.Earlier, CTTC unit started the drive around 5:30pm after a bomb disposal team reached the spot.Before starting the operation, local administration imposed section 144 in and around the area, said Bheramara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mizanur Rahman.Earlier, police arrested three alleged female militants along with suicidal vests and two children from the den.The three militants are Tithi, wife of Neo-JMB Ameer Ayub Ali alias Sajib alias Bachchu and Sumaiya, wife of second-in-command of Neo-JMB and Tolley Ara, wife of JMB member Arman Ali and Tithi’s five-month daughter Afia Hasan and Sumaiya dauther Nova, 6.Tithi and Sumaiya hail from Natore while Trolleyara from Thakur-Daulatpur of Bheramara in Kushtia, said SM Mehdi Hasan, superintendent of Kushtia Police.Arman and Tolley rented the house identifying themselves as married couple, police said.The SP said a joint team of police, Rapid Action Battalion, and Detective Branch (DB) cordoned off a house, owned by Masud and adjacent to Taltola Mosque, around 12:00am suspecting the house to be a militant den.Later, a CTTC unit from Dhaka reached the spot around 3:00am.When the joint team moved towards the house, a female militant, wearing a suicidal vest, tried to attack them.However, the unit managed to detain the woman before the vest went off, said the SP.Later, two other women along with two children went out of the house and surrendered to the law enforcers.last_img
